Cochabamba, population about 600,000 in 2006, is the third largest city in Bolivia. It is a relatively low altitude for Bolivia, only 8000 feet. Water service is provided to about 60% of the population by Servicio Municipal de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (SEMAPA). It was the scene of the Cochabamba Water War, an unsuccessful privatization attempt which was widely publicized.
