A green alley is an alley paved with Permeable paving, either concrete or asphalt, which allows stormwater to seep through. Underneath the porous paving there is a layer of stone which aids percolation. Chicago embarked in 2007 on a "Green Alley" initiative, redoing its many alleys as green alleys.[1]
