The IAC 1090 Intelligent Aquatic Biomonitoring System is a water-monitoring device produced using U.S. Army patents by Intelligent Automation Corporation of Poway, California. The device monitors the behavior of juvenile bluegills and sounds an alarm if there are significant changes in the fishes' breathing, heartbeat or swimming patterns. Bluegills are sensitive to polluting substances in water and exhibit changes if foreign substances are present. Intelligent Aquatic Biomonitoring Systems are being utilized by metropolitan water suppliers in the United States.
