The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is a publicly owned treatment works (POTW) which treats wastewaters from domestic, commercial and industrial sources in Chicago and numerous surrounding communities.[1] The district is believed to contribute substantial quantities of phosphorus and nitrogen to the waters of the Mississippi River.[2]
